There are several reasons why you may need to cancel your TIN certificate For example, you may be moving out of Bangladesh, closing your business, or no longer paying taxes in the country. Whatever the reason, it is important to follow the correct procedure to cancel your TIN certificate.

What is TIN Certificate?

TIN Certificate means Taxpayer Identification Number Certificate. It is a unique 12-digit number issued by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) of Bangladesh to individuals and businesses for tax identification purposes. TIN certificate is a mandatory requirement for all taxpayers in Bangladesh, including individuals, companies, partnerships and other business entities.

Who Can Deactivate TIN?

Only the National Board of Revenue (NBR) of Bangladesh can deactivate a TIN certificate. You can apply to deactivate your TIN certificate if you meet one of the following criteria:

  1. You have died.
  2. You have no taxable income.
  3. You are a non-resident foreign national with no permanent base in Bangladesh.
  4. You obtained your TIN Certificate for a specific reason and no longer need it.
  5. You are a man or woman over 65 years of age with no taxable income.

To apply for deactivate of your TIN certificate, you need to submit an application to the Tax Commissioner or Commissioner of Taxes in your area.

How to Deactivate TIN Certificate in Bangladesh?

To deactivate your TIN certificate in Bangladesh, you must submit a written application to the National Board of Revenue (NBR). The application must include the following information:

  • Your name
  • Your TIN number
  • Your address
  • Your contact information
  • The reason for deactivating your TIN certificate

To deactivate your TIN certificate in Bangladesh, you need to submit an application to the Deputy Commissioner of Taxes (DCT) or Commissioner of Taxes (CT) of your area citing valid reasons. The TIN cancellation fee is Tk. 500 for individuals and Tk. 1,000 for businesses. Following are the steps you need to follow:

  1. Download the TIN Deregistration Form from the National Board of Revenue (NBR) website.
  2. Fill out the form completely and accurately, providing all the required information.

  4. Submit the completed application form and all supporting documents to the DCT or CT office of your area.

Once your application is processed, you will be notified by NBR about the status of your request. If your application is approved, your TIN certificate will be deactivated and you will no longer need to file income tax returns. However, you may have to pay any outstanding tax before your TIN certificate is deactivated.  After your TIN is cancelled, you will get a cancellation certificate from NBR.

You must also attach the following documents to your application:

  • A copy of your TIN certificate.
  • A copy of your passport or national identity card.
